Lucy-Blackman

Lucy Blackman (born 1972) is the first autistic non-verbal person in Australia to become an officially published writer with her book Lucy's Story published in 2001, written with the help of facilitated communication. Lucy also completed her studies (Literary Studies) with honors at the Deakin University in Geelong. She also wrote a chapter in the book Autism and the Myth of the Person Alone. Douglas Biklen, the editor of the book, made the following comment about Lucy: "In all my personal interactions with Lucy Blackman, I have found her opinionated, articulate, humorous, ever so candid, and always ready to challenge my ideas or anyone else's.
